Dickie Betts with Gregg Allman – “Melissa”

Dickie Betts with Gregg Allman playing an acoustic version of “Melissa” live! Accompanied by guitarist Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody, this performance was a little over a year into their reunion, with the original Allman Brothers Band having disbanded in the early ’80s. Gregg Allman wrote this song in 1967, and more than half a century later, it sounds as good as ever. Duane used to say this was his favorite song that Gregg ever wrote, and, according to Gregg, some years before it would be recorded, his brother would ask him from time to time, “Man, go get your guitar and play me that song—that song about that girl!”
