Ike Turner – “Ike’s Tune”

Ike Turner and the Kings of Rhythm playing “Ike’s Tune” live at the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam, Netherlands, 2002! When I hear some of the crazy sounds Ike is making with his Strat, one person comes to mind—Jimi Henrix! I once listened to an interview where Jimi said that he used to watch a lot of cartoons and would sometimes try and emulate on his guitar some of the wild sound effects he would hear on those cartoons. I believe Jimi was telling the truth about that, and I’ll be the first to admit that he took weird guitar sounds to a whole ‘nother level better than anyone else, but I’m willing to bet he got at least some of his ideas for making those weird sounds from brother Ike. Gotta love those weird guitar sounds! If you enjoyed this video of “Ike’s Tune,” chances are you’ll feel the same way about “Maggot Brain” played by Kidd Funkadelic.
